Rosewood Miramar Beach
1759 South Jameson Lane, Montecito

The stay
Beach houses and bungalows in gardens that run down to Montecito’s shore.
Rebuilt on the site of the old Miramar hotel and opened in 2019, Rosewood’s Montecito resort spreads beach houses, bungalows and suites through gardens that run down to the sand. It has the polish you would expect, softened by sea air and a lot of white-painted wood.
Public health information is thin so far. The resort’s policy bars smoking in guest rooms and suites, and welcomes pets of all sizes.1 Laundry, cleaning, scenting and air handling are not described, so almost all of this profile is still marked as not yet reviewed.
We include it for the setting, with the expectation that a fragrance-sensitive or allergic guest will need to ask detailed questions in advance.

What we love
- A beachfront setting where many rooms open straight onto gardens and sea air.
- Bungalows spread through the grounds rather than stacked in a tower.
- White-painted wood and garden paths that run down to the sand.
Worth knowing
- Pets of all sizes are welcome,1 so ask for a room that has not recently hosted one if you are allergic.
- The resort’s spa, cleaning and laundry practices are not described publicly; ask about fragrance before booking.

Air
What you breathe for eight hours a night: smoke history, fresh air, filtration and anything burning in the room.
Smoke-free property
Not yet reviewed.
So far, the hotel says: ‘Smoking is not allowed in guestrooms or suites.’
Our note. Balconies, outdoor areas and indoor public spaces are not covered by the published policy, so this falls short of the criterion.
How we know
What we look for. No smoking in any guest room, balcony or indoor space.
Why it matters. Tobacco smoke leaves a residue (thirdhand smoke) on surfaces and in dust. A study of California hotels found that non-smoking rooms in hotels that allow smoking elsewhere did not protect non-smoking guests from it.

How we know
What we look for. Rooms or floors where animals are never allowed, cleaned to a separate routine.
Why it matters. Pet allergen can stay on carpets and furniture for months and travels on clothing. For allergic guests a room animals never enter matters more than any amenity.
